MU athletes read to local preschoolers
HUNTINGTON -- Children's Place in the Guyandotte neighborhood already has plenty of color, but a wave of green washed over the facility Thursday when Marshall University athletes visited to participate in Dr. Seuss Reading Day to read their favorite Dr. Seuss classics, said Olivia Beaman, director of the center.
Each story was accompanied by an activity related to a Dr. Seuss story, including a "Fox in Sox" picture game and arts and crafts.
"I think for the athletes, who I see as being kids themselves, being around these kids let them really play into their stories, and they enjoyed it," Beaman said. "I think they helped the kids with their love of learning. It's about the love of reading -- not reading because you have to, but reading because it's fun."
