Police investigating shooting

March 03, 2013 @ 12:10 AM

HUNTINGTON -- The Huntington Police Department is investigating a shooting of a Lincoln County man, an incident police believe is likely tied to drugs.

Det. Chris Sperry said he was awakened at about 1:30 a.m. with a call that a gunshot victim was at Cabell Huntington Hospital, having been driven by a friend. The man, later identified as John Johnson, was shot four times, said Det. Rob Stinnett.

The investigation led police back to a house in the 900 block of 13th Street, where Sperry said a drug transaction may have gone wrong.

In addition to Johnson, another man showed up at the emergency room at St. Mary's Medical Center with a cut. Sperry said the man had escaped from the house and was cut on the glass.

Johnson was listed in good condition at the hospital Saturday night, and investigators had identified two persons of interest while talking to witnesses, said Stinnett.
