Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church presents Good Friday service
HUNTINGTON — Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church presents an evensong service of Tenebrae at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church, located at 5th Avenue and 10th Street in downtown Huntington.
The liturgy of evening prayer in a musical setting is presented as this year’s Lenten musical offering.
Tenebrae is a traditional Good Friday service of gathering darkness that uses scriptural readings and diminishing light to remember the passion of Jesus Christ.
Choral works for the service range from the modern compositions of Gilbert Martin and Lloyd Larson to the classics of Stainer and Bach.
“This is an inspiring service of sacred readings, stirring music and congregational singing,” senior pastor John W. Lipphardt said in a news release.
