Police say hatchet used in robbery
HUNTINGTON -- A Hurricane man is in jail on armed robbery charges, accused of raising a hatchet against a man in his home and taking his valuables.
Wayne Alan Leadman, 32, of Hurricane was booked at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville on charges of first-degree robbery and fleeing on foot.
According to a police report, a 49-year-old Huntington man was at a local nightclub Monday and drove a man to his home on North Queens Court in the Forest Hills neighborhood.
Once inside, the guest locked the door, grabbed a hatchet that was sitting on a table in the home and told the victim he'd kill him if he didn't give him all his valuables. The victim got a bag and gathered up items such as DVDs and a computer, but was able to escape to a neighbor's house.
The suspect fled on foot and was arrested by the Huntington Police Department on Locust Street. He had taken a digital camera, foreign currency, prescription drugs, car keys and other items.
Leadman was awaiting arraignment Tuesday in Cabell County Magistrate Court.
