ASHLAND -- There is still room for campers and volunteers for Community Hospice's 14th Annual Camp Nabe, scheduled for June 10 to 12.

Camp Nabe is a special camp for children ages 8 to 16 who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The camp is open to all children, not just those whose families have been served by Hospice.

Camp Nabe can accommodate up to 25 children and still has space available for several campers. Camp counselors will screen all applications and those children with the greatest bereavement needs will be accepted. Camp Nabe is offered without cost to the children or families. The deadline for completed applications is Friday, May 30.

Camp Nabe offers a safe place for sharing experiences, understanding the cycle of life and exploring feelings of grief. Professional staff and volunteers facilitate group discussions and activities so campers can better understand and express their own feelings. Activities include swimming, fishing, water games, art and crafts, a scavenger hunt and singing.

There is also a need for adult camp volunteers, particularly Big Buddies. Big Buddies provide one-on-one counseling, companionship and supervision. Volunteers must complete one evening of training and authorize a background check.

To receive a camper application, to volunteer, or for additional information, please contact Community Hospice bereavement staff at 606-329-1890 or 800-926-6184.
