HUNTINGTON -- Dickson Muchiri, president of the Marshall University's Herd Around the World, presented Rotary President Karen Dickson with a check in the amount of $1,600 on May 5.

Muchiri and members of Herd Around the World raised funds to benefit the Rotary International Service Water Project of The Rotary Club of Huntington.

"I am at a loss for words," Dickson said in a prepared release. "The effort of Herd Around the World says a lot about the members' leadership and that we have great students coming forward who will service our community and world well."

The goal of the Rotary Club of Huntington's Water Project is to provide clean water in West Africa by digging wells and installing water filtration and purification systems for entire cities with the ultimate goal being elimination of the Guinea Worm parasite by 2010 in Ghana.

Also announced at Monday's meeting, The Rotary Club of Huntington will sponsor the community's first ever Rotaract Club on Marshall's campus next year, maintaining the club motto, Herd Around the World. Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and they're sponsored by a local Rotary club.
