Women's Club presents Cabell Midland student with scholarship

The General Federation of Women's Clubs of Cox's Landing met on May 6 to award a scholarship to a local student and elect new officers.

Club president Robin Spurlock presented a $1,000 scholarship to Summar Elder. Elder will be graduating from Cabell Midland High School on June 7. She has been accepted into the four-year nursing program at Marshall University.

Newly elected officers for the 2008-10 session were installed by Roselyn Roush, president of the Point Pleasant Women's Club. They are: Robin Spurlock, president; Carolyn Harvey, vice president; Sally Henderson, secretary; and Janice Spurlock, treasurer. Marily Floyd serves as the club's parliamentarian.

Members of the club attended the GFWC State Convention at The Greenbrier in March. Our club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Lion's Club Building on Kyle Lane. However, they do not meet during the months of June, July and August.
