HUNTINGTON -- A second-degree murder charge has been dropped against a man in connection with the death of Jason Poynter Finley, according to a Cabell County Circuit Court document.
On May 14, Circuit Judge Dan O'Hanlon signed a document stating that Jeffrey Irvin Harrison's charge be dismissed due to the lack of evidence. The document further states that Cabell County Prosecutor Chris Chiles presented to the grand jury that a "no true bill" was returned and signed, which means that Finley was not indicted.
"It was apparent to the grand jury that there was no criminal activity on his part," Chiles said.
The allegations stem from a robbery attempt that targeted a man's room at the Huntington Inn on Jan. 22 and led to the shooting death of Finley. Court documents state that Finley died forcing his way into the room. He received one gunshot wound to the chest.
Another suspect in the case, Charles Allen Runyon, was indicted Monday and had his charge upgraded. Finley originally was charged with first-degree robbery. His charges have now upgraded to murder, attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy. Another suspect, Carl "Rocky" Meadows, was charged with first-degree robbery.
