United Way presents forum on obesity
HUNTINGTON -- The United Way of the River Cities is hosting a forum to attack the problem of obesity from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Tabernacle of Praise, 2368 Thompson Road, Culloden.
"Weighing the Options: How Do We Encourage Healthy Weights Among West Virginia's Youth?" is designed to address the epidemic of overweight children in West Virginia.
The forum is being organized by Putnam on Wellness Coalition and Putnam Youth Wellness Task Team of Regional FRN, Tabernacle of Praise and United Way of the River Cities, in partnership with the West Virginia Office of Healthy Lifestyles and the West Virginia Center for Civic Life.
The goal of the forum is to consider individual, organizational and community responses to the rising rate of childhood obesity. Organizers hope opportunities for community action will emerge from this discussion that will be best implemented by a partnership among the agencies and organizations.
