Mpowerment program to separate from AIDS Task Force location
HUNTINGTON -- The Tri-State AIDS Task Force and Mpowerment Program are going their separate ways.
The task force, which currently serves an estimated 130 people with HIV and AIDS, will remain in its location at 1038 6th Ave., according to Lisa Cremeans, board president. The Mpowerment Program is in the process of relocating.
Cremeans said the task force provides all types of assistance for individuals living with HIV and AIDS, including rental and utility assistance, medications and food. The Mpowerment program focuses on HIV prevention for the young gay community.
"We thought in the beginning that we were gloves meant to be together. As the programs both grew this year, it's obvious that we need to be separated," Cremeans said.
Cremeans said the task force is also looking for volunteers to work daily, answering phones and directing people.
The task force also is preparing for its upcoming AIDS Walk, scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Ritter Park. Donations will be accepted during the event.
More information is available by calling the task force at (304) 522-4357.
