Board mulls trips, new contracts
HUNTINGTON -- Big trips and big contracts are on the agenda for the Cabell County Board of Education.
The board will consider $1.4 million in revised Pre-K contracts as well as an international trip for two students from Huntington High School during its regular meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Cabell County Schools central office.
The board also will consider the hiring of new administrators at four schools.
On the agenda is a series of contracts to implement the school district's pre-K plan into 13 local facilities that provide childcare services.
The contracts originally were on the board's agenda for its July 15 meeting, but they were removed just before the meeting when one of the contracts was not completed.
If approved, the school district would enter into the contracts with local entities that include Marshall University, Playmates Child Development Center, River Valley Child Development Services, Southwestern Community Action Council Head Start, local churches and local private schools.
In personnel items, the board will vote on the hiring of new administrators at Village of Barboursville Elementary, Milton Middle School, Huntington High School and Geneva Kent Elementary School.
Each school will get a new assistant principal, and an additional measure is on the agenda for Milton Middle School to get new principal during the meeting.
The board also will consider a recommendation to allow two students and two chaperones from Huntington High to attend the GLOBE Learning Expedition in New Delhi, India.
The conference will be Aug. 1 to 11, which means the students would miss three days of school. Most of the expenses for the trip are being taken care of through the GLOBE Program.
