Lee Greenwood headlines Barboursville's 200th birthday concert

Jun. 21, 2013 @ 11:40 PM

BARBOURSVILLE -- Just one day after West Virginia celebrated its 150th birthday, residents in one Cabell County town continued their 200th birthday celebration with a concert.

The Barboursville 200th Birthday Celebration continued Friday evening with a performance from Lee Greenwood, who is best known for his 1984 hit "God Bless the USA."

The concert was one in a series of events celebrating Barboursville's bicentennial.

The town will be the scene of a week-long celebration from Monday, July 8, to Friday, July 12.

The Village of Barboursville was founded in 1813 by an act of the Virginia Assembly. At the time of its creation, it was the Cabell County seat. It was replaced in that regard by Huntington following the Civil War.
