Police blotter: Woman robbed in Kroger parking lot
The following information was provided by the Huntington Police Department:
An 86-year-old Huntington woman reported that she was robbed outside of the Kroger in the first block of 7th Avenue West. The incident took place around 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13. She told police that she had just finished shopping and was unlocking her trunk when she felt a tug on her arm. The next thing she remembered was falling down to the ground, the grocery cart overturning and seeing an unknown white vehicle speeding off. The woman still had the handles of her purse around her arm.
On Wednesday, Nov. 18, another woman filed a similar report. She said she walked out of the Kroger on 5th Avenue Tuesday, when two men in a car drove past and tried to grab her purse. She was able to get the license plate number and give it to police.
ESCAPE: James Childers, 26, was informed at the Cabell County Courthouse of outstanding warrants for burglary, domestic battery and a domestic violence petition violation. As deputies were arranging transportation to the Western Regional Jail, Childers left the courthouse on foot, according to the report.
GRAND LARCENY: A witness reported to police that he saw two known suspects steal an HVAC unit from outside a rental house in the 900 block of 27th Street around 9:30 a.m. Monday. The landlord stated it was the second time a unit had been stolen. The estimated value is $2,000.
BREAKING AND ENTERING: A building owned by the U.S. Navy in the 800 block of Jackson Avenue was broken into sometime between Nov. 3 and Nov. 17. The complainant reported 16 HVAC wall-mounted units, valued at a combined $3,500, were stolen, along with $1,000 worth of copper pipes and $500 in damage to doors and ceiling tiles.
EMBEZZLEMENT: The pharmacy manager of the Rite Aid on 31st Street in Huntington reported that he found thousands of pills missing during an inventory check.
Among the items reported stolen on Nov. 17: 1,300 Xanax, 1,500 Lortabs, 100 Vicodin, 386 OxyContin, 700 Lorcet and 192 Opana, Norco and Suboxone pills.
Police have a suspect.
BURGLARY: A 62-year-old man reported that his apartment in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue was burglarized between 3 and 4 p.m. Tuesday. He told police that someone entered the unlocked front door and stole an $800 computer and $180 in cash.
The following information was provided by the Cabell County Sheriff's Office:
A Culloden woman reported that someone took her white Buick Regal while she was shopping at a business in the 2100 block of U.S. 60. She said the vehicle, valued at $5,000, was unlocked with the keys inside.
THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE: A Genoa, W.Va., man reported that while his vehicle was parked in the HIMG parking lot around 9 a.m. Tuesday, someone took various tools from his van, including two battery packs, a cordless saw and two nail guns. The total loss was more than $1,400. He was at HIMG doing some interior work.
The following information was provided by the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville:
Chad Owen Spurlock, 31, was incarcerated at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities in Cabell County charged him with a felony count of grand larceny and misdemeanor counts of worthless checks and a capias warrant. His bond was set at $130,400.
Gary Porter, 28, was incarcerated at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities in Cabell County charged him with a felony count of forgery and uttering. His bond was set at $25,000.
Joshua Ryan Rowe, 19, was incarcerated at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities in Cabell County charged him with felony attempted burglary, along with misdemeanor receiving/transferring stolen property, petit larceny, interfering with a police officer and shoplifting. Bond was denied pending arraignment.
Brian David Kirby, 25, was incarcerated at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities in Cabell County charged him with felony fraudulent use of a credit card and failure to appear in circuit court, along with misdemeanor receiving/transferring stolen property. Total bond was not available.
Christopher Paul Crouch, 36, was incarcerated at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities in Cabell County charged him with felony malicious wounding. Bond was $10,000.
