Downtown toy store plans activities for kids

HUNTINGTON -- Latta's Toy Station, the new toy store on 3rd Avenue across from Pullman Square, has several activities planned for children and families throughout November. Here's a rundown:

Nov. 12, 19 & 26: If you like Bingo, try Thanksgiving Jingo, a game that teaches people of all ages about the holiday. It's played at 3:30 p.m. each Wednesday in November, and it's a free event.

Nov. 13: "Fancy Nancy" is the featured story to be followed by playing the Fancy Nancy game. Start times are 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. This is a free event for all ages for the story time; and ages 5 and up to play the game.

Nov. 14, 15 & 21: It's Family Game Night. Try new games while spending quality time with your family, beginning at 7:30 p.m. This is a free event for ages 5 and up.

Nov. 15: Make a Thanksgiving craft to take home beginning at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Cost is $2 and it's for kids ages 4 to 9.

Nov. 17: Be a chef for a day. Meet a real chef from the Marshall University Cooking and Culinary Institute, and enjoy time with play kitchens and chef outfits to try on. Goes on from 4 to 5 p.m. and is a free event for all ages.

Nov. 18 & 25: Start a new family tradition by attending a reading of "Elf on the Shelf." After story time, stay for a craft. Start times are 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Cost is $2, and it targets ages 3 and up.

Nov. 20: Enjoy a reading of the classic "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed." After story time, stay to play the game. Start times are 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The event targets all ages for the story time, and ages 3 and up to play the game.

Nov. 22 & 29: View a puppet show at the Toy Station castle at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. This is a free event for all ages.

Nov. 24: Meet a real police officer from the Huntington Police Department and check out the police vehicle from 4 to 5 p.m. This is a free event for all ages.
