Deputies probing Dollar General robbery

Dec. 25, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Sheriff's deputies are investigating the Monday night holdup of a discount retailer near Huntington.

Cabell County Sheriff Tom McComas said the incident happened about 7 p.m. at Dollar General, located in the Eastern Heights Shopping Center off U.S. 60 and Cedar Crest Drive.

The assailant entered the store with a stocking over his face, brandished a tire iron and demanded cash. He fled with less than $500, McComas said.

Investigators released surveillance of the robbery. The sheriff encouraged anyone with information to call 911 or investigators at 304-743-1594.

No injuries were reported.

McComas said Monday night's robbery is the third such incident in recent weeks. He had no information linking this assailant to other robberies. He said it is more likely the product of increased theft that happens near Christmas.
