Combative man arrested after fleeing from police
The following information was provided by reports filed by the Barboursville Police Department:
FLEEING: Bryan C. White, 22, of Gallipolis, was arrested in the early morning hours of Dec. 19 after a report of a man fleeing after causing a disturbance and destruction of property at a store in the 6200 block of U.S. 60.
An officer located the suspect's vehicle not far from the store and attempted a traffic stop; however, the driver continued to flee. The officer eventually pinned the suspect's vehicle between his cruiser and a concrete wall on Merritt's Creek Road.
The driver then got out of the vehicle and refused multiple commands made by the officer. He was placed under arrest, but was being physically and verbally combative toward the officer and other officers as he was transported to the West Virginia State Police detachment. At the detachment, he was restrained to a bench and refused to take any sobriety tests, kicking them off a desk. His legs were then restrained, but he continued to be combative by spitting on an officer.
The suspect, still combative, was then transported to the Western Regional Jail on charges of fleeing while driving under the influence, misdemeanor driving under the influence, driving on a suspended/revoked drivers license for a prior DUI, obstruction and battery of an officer. Bond was $22,000.
EMBEZZLEMENT: Macy's reported a 48-year-old Milton woman, who worked at the store, went into a fitting room during her shift on Dec. 17 and concealed $49 pants in her purse. She then finished her shift and attempted to leave the store with the items around 2 p.m., at which time she was stopped by another employee and admitted to the theft. She was released pending investigation.
JCPenney reported a 28-year-old Chesapeake woman, who worked at the store, stole $510 from the cash register from Dec. 3 to Dec. 21. Multiple incidents were captured by surveillance video. She told police she stole the money to pay attorney's fees related to a child custody case. She was not immediately arrested.
PETIT LARCENY: A 26-year-old Glenwood man reported someone stole his $700 cell phone while he was at a convenience store on Mall Road around 12:30 a.m. Dec. 17. No suspects were seen.
Kohl's reported someone shoplifted an $85 pair of shoes and fled the store on foot around 7:30 p.m. Dec. 26. The suspect put the new shoes on his feet, put his old shoes in the box and placed the box back on the shelf. He then ran from Kohl's, across the parking lot and into the Huntington Mall. Police were unable to locate him. The incident was captured on surveillance video.
