Jim Hightower to be keynote speaker at Bill of Rights Dinner

September 12, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

CHARLESTON -- Radio commentator and author Jim Hightower will be the keynote speaker at the American Civil Liberties of West Virginia Foundation's Bill of Rights Dinner from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Clay Center in Charleston.

Hightower is known as "America's most popular populist," for his view that the political spectrum is not right to left but top to bottom. His latest book is called "Swim Against the Current: Even A Dead Fish Can Go with the Flow." He broadcasts daily radio commentaries that are carried in more than 150 commercial and public stations, on the Web, and on Radio for Peace International.

The event also will feature a reception, silent auction, dinner and award presentation. State Sen. Jeffrey V. Kessler will be presented with the Roger Baldwin Award, which is given to individuals whose work has advanced civil liberties in the state.

Tickets are $75 per person. For reservations, call 304-345-9246 or mail a check payable to ACLU-WV Foundation to P.O. Box 3952, Charleston, WV 25339-3952. Reservations are due by Monday, Sept. 21.
