Logan County man dies in crash

October 24, 2008 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- A Logan County man died Wednesday when the car he was driving collided with an ambulance at the intersection of W.Va. 10 and Alternate W.Va. 10.

Killed was James Miller, 76, of Pecks Mill, W.Va., according to the Cabell County Sheriff's Office. Miller was trapped in the vehicle and died at the scene. The accident happened about 5:42 p.m.

Witnesses said Miller's vehicle pulled into the path of a northbound Jan-Care ambulance, which crashed into the driver's side of Miller's 2009 Toyota Camry, according to sheriff's Chief Deputy Jim Scheidler.

Miller's 72-year-old passenger, Mona Miller, was transported to St. Mary's Medical Center. She was listed in fair condition Thursday.

The ambulance was carrying a driver, attendant and a patient. St. Mary's Medical Center listed the patient, Vaden Butcher of Chapmanville, W.Va., to be in fair condition Thursday.

The Green Valley Volunteer Fire Department provided assistance, along with EMS crews from Cabell and Lincoln counties.

Scheidler said the road was closed for about an hour.

The intersection was recently reconfigured, but Scheidler said there was no indication the traffic pattern contributed to the crash.
