Police officer escapes injury
HUNTINGTON -- A lieutenant with the Huntington Police Department avoided injury and then chased down a motorist who sideswiped her motorcycle Monday afternoon.
The incident happened about 2:45 p.m. in the 2100 block of Madison Avenue. Lt. Brenda Wamsley was issuing parking tickets in the area when a suspected drunken driver sideswiped her police motorcycle.
She was parked on the side of the traffic lane with her emergency lights flashing at the time, Capt. Mike Albers said.
Wamsley saw the vehicle coming and reacted in enough time to escape injury. The incident caused minor damage to the motorcycle. A side-view mirror was damaged.
Wamsley charged the 51-year-old motorist with misdemeanor hit and run, along with driving under the influence and obstruction.
