Putnam County to get portable stage for venues
WINFIELD, W.Va. -- The Putnam County Commission made an investment toward the purchase of deluxe mobile staging that could offer Putnam County a better means of providing entertainment at area venues.
Linda Bush, director of the Putnam County Convention and Visitors Bureau, approached the County Commission on Tuesday to request the additional $50,000 needed to fund the stage's $80,000 ticket price. The purchase of the 24-by-16-foot portable covered stage is intended for shared use between county departments for special community events and is an item that can be added to.
Both Putnam Parks and Recreation and the county's Convention and Visitors Bureau have each earmarked $15,000 of their budget to apply toward the project. The stage will be purchased and insured by parks as the agency responsible for maintaining, setting up, tearing down and transporting the item to and from events.
The stage will be purchased from Marshall Austin Productions, a Colorado-based company. Once ordered, delivery is expected to take roughly five weeks.
"The way Putnam County is growing, I feel like this is something so important," Bush said.
Now that funding has become available, Bush says it's the best investment the Convention and Visitors Bureau could make that would benefit the entire county.
Though it is not set in stone, a rental agreement is being considered to allow others in the community to have access to the stage as well as to raise additional revenue to cover the cost of staffing to transport and assemble the stage for events. Bush suggested that Point Pleasant had a similar situation where they rented their stage for approximately $2,000 a day.
Commissioner Joe Haynes encouraged the matter of rental to be highly considered in order to recover manpower cost.
