Jim Perdue's wedding broadcast live on the DAWG from Buddy's
HUNTINGTON -- "Front-row" Jim Perdue has been to nearly 175 shows with not a head in front of him. Tuesday, Perdue found himself at the front of the show again, but this time he was facing the crowd.
"I gave Jim his nickname when we saw him camping outside of a ticket booth," said Jeff "The Crawdawg" Crawford a DJ at 93.7 The Dawg. "He went from being some nut to being a friend of ours. When he said he was going to have some quick wedding in a chapel in Cattlettsburg, I wasn't going to let that happen."
In front of friends and family members gathered at Buddy's Bar-B-Que, Perdue slid a wedding ring onto the finger of Mary Turner of Pikeville, Ky.
Perdue is well known for camping outside of venues, sometimes for days, to be the first in line for tickets. Perdue is an active character on The Dawg and his wedding was broadcast live.
"Front-row Jim is very much a part of the Dawg family. He has always helped us with anything we ask. He's there for everything from our charity events to our just-for-fun stuff," said Angie Fletcher, director of promotions for Kindred Communications.
The groomsmen and various attendees wore T-Shirts with tuxedo's printed on the front. The newly married couple toasted with Diet Pepsi. Terry "Karaoke King" Ward sang to the crowd in a full Elvis outfit. Perdue shouted, "Oh, baby come to me," as he pulled his new wife into their first kiss.
"Oh, this was very different from any wedding I have done before," said Al Gorgia, the officiator of the wedding.
The couple met each other about a month ago via the Internet, and they were engaged only a week later. Front-row Jim said he knew she was the one.
"It was the way she looked at me and the way she talked to me," Perdue said.
Married life is not going to keep Perdue away from the stage. Their first concert together is already planned Oct. 9 when Lady Antebellum and Jason Aldean come to the Big Sandy Superstore Arena.
Of course, it should not be hard to find out which seats the newlyweds bought.
