Military engineers' society meets at Big Sandy Arena

The Society of American Military Engineers conducted a conference in the Big Sandy Superstore Arena Wednesday night.

Formed in 1920, the society was based on the goal of connecting engineers, architects and builders to prepare for and handle natural disasters, acts of terrorism and to improve security at home and overseas.

That goal, according to the society, grew from America's experiences in World War I, where more than 11,000 civil engineers were called into duty.
