Businessman pledges $25,000 for Teays Valley Recreational Center

August 28, 2008 @ 12:00 AM

SCOTT DEPOT, W.Va. -- A local businessman has pledged $25,000 in matching funds toward a proposed Teays Valley Community Recreational Center.

Wishing to remain anonymous, the man has approached Teays Valley Church of God, leaders in the center's construction, with a challenge he wanted to place before other community businesses, according to the Rev. Melissa Pratt. Pratt says the man has vowed to match up to $25,000 of all corporate funds donated toward the completion of the 74-acre project located off Teays Valley Road just east of Rocky Step.

So far, through the efforts of church members and two community partners, land has been cleared for the development of two soccer/softball fields, parking lots are under construction, and the construction of a concession stand/restroom facility has been completed. In addition, a Boy Scout troop has been working on the installation of playground equipment. A picnic shelter with seating for 100 is already in place for community use, and utilities are expected to be available before the end of the year.

If you are interested in making a contribution to the development of the Teays Valley Community Recreational Center or have any questions about the project, call the church at 304-757-9222.
