Stuck tractor-trailer blocks I-64 traffic
HUNTINGTON -- A stuck tractor-trailer caused headaches Thursday for motorists traveling eastbound Interstate 64.
The incident occurred before 9:30 a.m. at the interstate's eastbound exit ramp at the Hal Greer Boulevard interchange. Highway officials believe the truck was too long and too wide for the exit ramp, said Scott Eplin, a district construction engineer for the state Division of Highways.
After attempting to move the tractor-trailer for some time, Cogan's Wrecker in Huntington finally cleared it from I-64 at around 4 p.m.
Thursday's problems were magnified by the ongoing bridge replacement project at the exit. Eplin said highway officials implemented an emergency contingency plan. It included electronic signs telling motorists to exit at the 5th Street Road or West Huntington interchanges.
