Police officer hurt in crash

August 03, 2010 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- A Huntington Police Department patrolman was treated and released at a local hospital following a late-night vehicle pursuit and crash.

Patrolman Jacob Felix was en route to assist a fellow officer in a pursuit when his vehicle missed an entrance ramp to Interstate 64. The single-vehicle crash happened about 12:13 a.m. at 17th Street West and Adams Avenue, said Huntington Police Lt. B.J. Wamsley.

Highway signs and guardrails were damaged. The vehicle was totaled, Wamsley said.

The crash occurred about four minutes after Cabell County 911 received word of the pursuit. It took place on Hal Greer Boulevard. Wamsley said it involved a suspect fleeing traffic violations.

The driver being sought in the pursuit was arrested about an hour after Felix's crash.

Felix joined the police force in August 2009.
