Two Ohio River bridges to undergo safety inspections
ASHLAND -- Safety inspections are scheduled for the two Ohio River bridges connecting Ashland and Coal Grove, Ohio, starting Monday, Sept. 15, according to a news release from the Kentucky Department of Highways.
Engineers and technical crews with Michael Baker Jr. will climb and inspect the steel support structure of the Ben Williamson Memorial Bridge at 12th Street and the Simeon Willis Memorial Bridge at 13th Street.
The inspections will require daily lane closures starting at 7 a.m. Monday on the 13th Street bridge. The closure is in effect through 3:30 p.m. There also will be lane closures starting Monday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the 12th Street bridge. The work will take about 10 days.
Motorists are advised to watch for an arrow board directing traffic away from where crews are working overhead. All land closures will be removed at the end of each work day.
