Crash closes Westbound lanes on I-64

Oct. 23, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

BARBOURSVILLE -- Traffic was backed up on I-64 for nearly an hour Tuesday afternoon after a sport-utility vehicle lost control west of the exit to Merritt Creek Farm Shopping Center in Barboursville.

Barboursville Police Chief Mike Coffey said the driver of the SUV miraculously escaped injuries though his vehicle was destroyed during the crash, which occurred shortly before 1 p.m.

Coffey said a tractor trailer narrowly escaped the crash, and then pulled his trailer across the lanes to help block traffic until help arrived.
