Tri-State goes beyond trick-or-treating with many weekend haunts

Here are some Halloween-related events scheduled for this weekend:

Wednesday, Oct. 28

Octubafest, 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28. A performance of "Tubonium," the university's tuba/euphonium ensemble. The group will perform a concert with several traditional Oktoberfest marches and polkas complemented by an array of fun compositions to celebrate Halloween. Free candy. Kid-friendly activities and costumes are welcome. Directed by Dr. George Palton, instructor of tuba. Call 304-696-3117. Thursday, Oct. 29

Ghost Hunt, 10 p.m.-2 a.m. Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 29-31. The Chesapeake Community Center with Quest Paranormal Investigations is sponsoring a ghost hunt. Proceeds will go to the roof fund. Chesapeake Community Center, 3978 Ohio 7, Chesapeake. $20 per person in advance; $25 at the door.

Haunted House, 7-10 p.m. Thursdays; 7 p.m. to All Hallows Eve Friday-Saturday, Oct. 15-31. Concessions available: hot dogs, sodas, baked goods and more. No tickets sold after 9:45 p.m. on Thursdays due to being a school night. AmVets Post 14, 1425 Chestnut St., Kenova. $6; $5 students.

Trunk or Treat, 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. Includes candy, games and inflatables. New Hope United Methodist Church, 111 Township Road 1130, Proctorville.

Rock 4 Wishes Halloween Costume Benefit, doors open at 8 p.m., show starts at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. Features All the Above, Relative Obscurity, Voices of Anatole and Given Hatred. Concert is to raise awareness and funds for those very ill, handicapped or in great financial need. Shamrock's Pub, 2050 3rd Ave., Huntington. $5 with costume, $7 no costume.

2nd annual Guyandotte Safe Trick or Treat Party and Street Dance, Thursday, Oct. 29. Food, candy and costume contest. UWA Wrestling from 4-5 p.m. Party and street dance from 5-7 p.m. with DJ Jim Davis and Haunted Trail (very frightening) at 8 p.m. Candy is needed. To donate candy, call Rick Simmons, 304-525-1248. 93.7 The Dawg's Safe Trick or Treat, 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, on 8th Street between 4th and 5th avenues. The Dawg, working in conjunction with the Cabell County Commission, will bring nearly 10,000 tri-state children. Local businesses will participate by handing out candy and stickers. Entertainment provided by "The Spooky D.J." with Ernie "G" Anderson. Downtown Huntington.

Haunt the Library, 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. Children can hear some spooky stories and then trick-or-treat at the various departments at all branches of the library. Halloween bags provided. Children who attend regular programs next week are encouraged to attend in costume, and will also get treats. Library staff and members will pass out candy at the front entrance of the main location.
