Leaf disposal guidelines for Huntington
HUNTINGTON -- The city of Huntington has polices regarding leaf disposal, and officials want to remind residents how to properly dispose of leaves.
Residents must bag their leaves and place the bags at the edge of their property or at the location where their garbage is normally picked up. Residents may include up to four bags of leaves per week with their regular refuse pickup.
For more than four bags, residents are asked to contact the Street Division at 304-696-4484 between 7:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. so that a pickup can be arranged. Leaves also may be taken to Dietz Hollow Landfill in Guyandotte from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Leaves should never be placed into the street gutter, which will block storm flows and can cause flooding from the blockage of the sewer systems. According to the Codified Ordinances of the City of Huntington 905.13, "No person shall obstruct or cause to be obstructed in any way whatever the gutters of any street or public alley so as to prevent the free passage of water along the same."
