Health-related classes, programs, screenings offered
HUNTINGTON -- A number of health-conscious classes, programs and screenings are scheduled in the Tri-State this week. Some of the activities offered in the area:
SEVENTH ANNUAL LADIES IN PINK LUNCHEON, noon to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, Guyan Country Club, Barboursville. Shopping in the parlor begins at 11 a.m., followed by the luncheon, guest speaker and breast cancer survivor stories. Proceeds from the event benefit St. Mary's Pink Ribbon Fund, which provides mammograms to uninsured and underinsured women.
ALL ABOUT STRESS, 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, King's Daughters Medical Center, 2201 Lexington Ave., Ashland. The process of stress testing, why it is performed and what you should know to prepare for your stress test will be explained. Reservations are requested and may be made by calling 606-408-6000.
HEALTHY SENIOR WEDNESDAY, 8:30 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10, Huntington Mall Food Court, Mall Road, Barboursville. October's featured topic is women's health for this free health and wellness event for anyone age 50 and older. For more information, call 304-526-2695.
PVD SCREENINGS -- SOUTH POINT, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, AARP Health Fair, old South Point High School, South Point, Ohio. Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital Health Community Services will offer free peripheral vascular disease screenings. Representatives will be on-site to offer information regarding stroke awareness and HomeCare as well. For more information, call 606-833-CARE.
FREE CLINICAL BREAST EXAMS, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12, Edwards Comprehensive Cancer, 1340 Hal Greer Blvd., Huntington. Breast exams performed by local physicians and breast specialists. West Virginia residents may be eligible for a free screening mammogram provided by the West Virginia Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program. Open to all women. ZUMBA FOR THE CURE, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12, Christ Temple Church, 2400 Johnstown Road, Huntington. The event will include prizes and refreshments. Zumba class for all ages and levels.
