Applications sought for Young People's Concert

Applications are being accepted for concerto auditions for the 52nd annual Young People's Concert, an annual performance featuring a student in seventh through 12th grade.

The performance, which features vocal or orchestral performances, is sponsored by Woman's Club of Huntington in cooperation with Marshall University and the Cabell County Board of Education.

Auditions are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at Smith Music Hall on the Marshall University Huntington campus. A memorized instrumental or vocal composition of 12 minutes or less with orchestral parts available is required. Applications can be obtained from Patricia Walker, 131 Wood Lomond Way, Huntington, WV 25705, by calling 304-736-4004, or by emailing pkwalker5@msn.com. Applications must be received by Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, along with a $20 application fee.

The winner will receive $150 and perform with the Marshall University Symphony at the Young People's Concert, which is Tuesday, March 5. There are two performances, one in the morning at the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center for fifth-graders from Cabell and Wayne county schools and a community performance at 7:30 p.m. at Smith Music Hall. There is also a dress rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 4.
