Local libraries lend DVD on stuttering
HUNTINGTON -- Two local libraries have received copies of a 20-minute educational DVD produced by The Stuttering Foundation.
The DVD is available to parents and educators at Wayne Public Library and the West Huntington branch of the Cabell County Public Library. The DVD, "Stuttering: Straight Talk for Teachers," attempts to help parents and teachers understand how stuttering can affect children of all ages in the classroom. It includes children discussing their experiences in the classroom and what was helpful for them.
Speech-language pathologists Bill Murphy of Purdue University and Kristin Chmela of Northwestern University present practical strategies teachers can use to help children feel more comfortable talking in the classroom.
International Stuttering Awareness Day is Oct. 22.
The Wayne Library is located at 325 Keyser St., Wayne. The phone number is 304-272-3756.
The West Huntington Library is located at 901 West 14th St., Huntington. The phone number is 304-528-5697.
