CHESAPEAKE, Ohio -- Spencer Williams, 17, has become Muguyoh District's 12th Eagle Scout. Williams lives with his mother, Alice Williams and Paul Smith in Chesapeake, Ohio. Boy Scout Troop 50 is sponsored by Chesapeake Church of the Nazarene. The Scoutmaster of Troop 50 is Paul Murphy.

According to a release from the Scouts, Williams' Eagle project was to build 10 oak bookshelves for the patient library at Mildred Mitchell-Bateman Hospital on Norway Avenue in Huntington. The hospital is adding two new inpatient units for a total of five units and is rebuilding their patient library. Williams supervised 19 helpers who volunteered 158 hours building and staining the oak bookshelves.

Williams is a senior at Chesapeake High School and Collins Career Center, where his major is commercial trucking. He has gotten straight A's and has a 4.0 GPA. His future plans are to become a diesel mechanic and an over-the-road truck driver. Williams is also a junior volunteer firefighter with the Chesapeake Volunteer Fire Department. His goal is to become a regular firefighter when he turns 18, according to the release.

Williams joined Scouting as a Tiger Cub Scout when he was 6 years old. He has taken part in many scouting programs and has earned 26 Merit Badges. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow Thal-Coo-Zyo Lodge 457.
