Get healthy Tri-State: Friends training hard for 5K run coming up
HUNTINGTON -- Tiffany Skaggs and coworker Stacie Keaton have never entered a race. This year, the pair plans to compete in their first-ever 5K, which just so happens to also be the first 5K race to take place in the area for more than 10 years.
The West Virginia 5K Championship Run/Walk will take place Saturday, June 6, and is being presented by The Herald-Dispatch and other sponsors.
Skaggs, 39, is a paralegal with the law firm Offutt Nord in downtown Huntington. She and Keaton are directors of the Offutt Nord Wellness Program.
In an effort to encourage their co-workers, family, friends, children and neighbors, the pair started training last fall for a 5K. After running three to four times each week on their lunch hour, they now say they are ready to race and they encourage others to sign up, too.
Registration forms can be obtained by visiting www.tristateracer.com/wv5k/. Forms are also available at the United Way office, 820 Madison Ave. or by calling 304-523-8929. The pre-registration fee is $15 until May 31. Race Day registration will be $25.
The race packet pickup will be at the Pullman Plaza Hotel, 1001 3rd Ave., on Friday, June 5, between 4 and 8 p.m.
Proceeds from this event will benefit United Way of the River Cities, Inc.
