Body found in Huntington home

November 12, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- A body, described by police as extremely decomposed, was found in a residence in the 2400 block of 81/2 alley around 7 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the Lt. Rocky Johnson of the Huntington Police Department, the discovery was made when officers responded to a possible break-in at what neighbors said was a vacant house.

"The neighbor thought he heard someone kick in the door," Johnson said. "When officers went in, they found a deceased person in the kitchen."

Johnson said the body was so badly decomposed, very little could be determined about the person or circumstances surrounding the death.

"It was in such a bad state of decomposition, we can't tell if it's male or female," he said.

The body was transported to the state medical examiner's office for identification and cause of death.

Neighbors told police that the last known person to live there had died last year. And utilities hadn't been on in about six months. Johnson said the door had been deadbolted from the inside, and all the windows were locked.

"It almost seemed like the person had a reason to be there," Johnson said. "But the house is pretty much in disarray."
