Organic Gourmet Food service displays healthy eating with eco-friendly living

November 19, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- The "green truck" rolled into Huntington to provide healthy foods and talk about eco-friendly living at Cabell Huntington Hospital on Wednesday morning.

Green Truck is an environmentally sustainable Organic Gourmet Food service business located in Los Angeles, according to the company's press kit.

On Wednesday, the truck's owner, Mitchell Collier, took food orders from Cabell Huntington Hospital employees and medical students. Fourth-year medical student Andrea Lauffer of Huntington was one of many who tried the "mother trucker vegan burger" at the special lunch event.

British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and the ABC production crew also stopped by to talk about healthy eating during the truck's visit to Huntington. Oliver is in the process of wrapping up filming in Huntington for a reality television show that will air on ABC in early 2010.

Green Truck operates a solar-powered production kitchen and alternative fuel catering trucks. All of the company's trucks run off vegetable oil previously used by the company and other food service companies in the Los Angeles area. Green Truck's food packaging containers, bags, napkins, and utensils are made from bio-compostable products rather than plastics and Styrofoam.

Jamie Oliver speaks with those who gather for lunch from the Green Truck on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
