5K Run/1-Mile Walk to raise addiction awareness
HUNTINGTON -- Area residents can celebrate September as National Drug and Alcohol Addiction Recovery Month by participating in the 5K Run/1-Mile Walk scheduled to take place Saturday, Sept. 27.
Registration for the event at Ritter Park begins at 8 a.m. Runners will begin the race at 9 a.m. and walkers will begin at 9:05 a.m.
Prestera Center and the Prestera Foundation are hosting the event as a way to raise awareness of drugs in the area. The event also aims to teach people that recovery is possible, organizers said.
Funds from the event will go to Prestera's Addictions Recovery Centers.
Prizes will be awarded to overall male and female winners of various age groups. There will also be children's activities, including an inflatable slide and an appearance by Mrs. West Virginia.
Registration for the event costs $15 for adults. Children under age 12 are free.
