Jury breaks without verdict in Blevins case
HUNTINGTON — Childcare issues prompted a five-man, seven-woman jury to recess for the night in the trial of Jesse Blevins.
Jurors notified the court of its request at 4:45 p.m.
Cabell Circuit Judge Alfred Ferguson told the jurors to return at 9 a.m. Thursday to resume deliberations.
Both sides presented closing arguments Wednesday morning. That was followed by three hours of deliberations.
The case concerns allegations that Blevins killed his one-time love interest, Elizabeth Cotton. The 23-year-old died July 28, 2009, at the home of Blevins’ vacationing father in the 700 block of Jackson Avenue. Her body was stashed in a cellar beneath the house.
Blevins, 25, of Huntington, apologized during Tuesday's testiomony saying he didn’t intend for Cotton to die.
Blevins faces two felony charges, murder and concealing a deceased human body. A first-degree murder conviction could send Blevins to prison for life.
