Bellefonte Women's Center to open Monday
RUSSELL, Ky. -- The Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital Women's Center will begin seeing patients Monday, June 16. Patients who have mammographies scheduled that day at Bellefonte should report to the new Women's Center instead of the main hospital.
The new $1.1 million facility is located on the ground floor of Bellefonte Centre, 1000 Ashland Drive.
The hospital is hosting a public open house for the facility from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21. The Friday event will include tours of the new facility, refreshments, door prizes and live radio remotes from WKEE and WLGC.
The open house also will play host to the national "GE Women's Health and Wellness Tour," a custom-designed semi-trailer from GE Healthcare created to help educate women about important health issues. The GE semi-trailer, featured recently on NBC's Today Show, contains breast, bone and heart health suites with the latest GE technologies.
As part of the festivities with the tour and the Women's Center open house, Bellefonte will utilize the GE mobile facility to provide free bone density and blood pressure tests and also to educate women about the importance of disease prevention and early detection. Free health-related lectures will be presented from the external lecture stage on the GE mobile facility (for a schedule, visit www.olbh.com).
The self-contained Women's Center is intended to eliminate unnecessary visits and prolonged waiting for women. The facility will offer GE Full Field digital mammography for improved efficiency and faster turn-around times, the daily presence of a surgeon, clinical breast examinations, dedicated breast ultrasound, surgical consultations, minimally invasive breast biopsy, a DEXA densitometer to screen for bone density and a full-time nurse practitioner to serve as the center's "nurse navigator" to guide patients through the process.
