Local Earth Day events
Here are some local events related to Earth Day:
Black Out for Earth Day: The Woman’s Club of Huntington invites everyone to enjoy an hour of candlelight from 9 to 10 p.m. today, April 22.
Catch a flick: Boyd County Public Library District, located at 1740 Central Ave. in Ashland, is offering a screening of the movie “Hoot” at 5:30 p.m. today. Based on the 2002 Newberry Award-winning book by Carl Hiaasen, “Hoot” is about a group of kids who fight to save endangered owls. Rated PG. Earth Day Organics: The Marshall Community and Technical College Cooking and Culinary Institute, located 917 3rd Ave., is offering a course from 6 to 8 p.m. today featuring two 30-minute meal ideas using all organic materials. First, a stuffed portabella over a bed of rice pilaf. Second, a foil-wrapped steamed chicken, steamed vegetable medley and red bliss potatoes. The cost is $35. Questions, call (304) 525-2960.
Recycling Event for Earth Day: Goodwill Industries of KYOWVA offers a daylong recycling celebration at the Goodwill Industrial Contracts and Recycling Center, 525 19th St. W. in Huntington. The first 100 people who bring newspapers, office paper, cardboard or computer components will receive a free reusable canvas shopping bag. Other give-aways will be offered. State Sen. Evan Jenkins and his wife, Elizabeth, will present the award winners of the Goodwill’s School Recycling Partners with their trophies and cash awards at noon. Questions, call (304) 429-3261.
