Rep. Rahall ignores needs of the people

I believe it's time for U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall to receive his retirement package from the good people of the great state of West Virginia's 3rd Congressional District.

Congressman Rahall continues to ignore the voice of the people by voting for a health care plan that many do not want, ignoring the plight of coal miners and their families as the federal government tries to put a policy in place that would send us back to the stone age in terms of quality of life and job creation in West Virginia. He does this while claiming to be a friend of coal, a friend to the working man, well, everybody's friend.

Congressman Rahall, we don't need a friend, we need an advocate. We need you to stand up for West Virginia or prepare for retirement. It's your choice right now, but soon it will again be the choice of those who elected you, the working men and women of West Virginia.

Community Page celebrates wildlife

So many letters to Voice of the People bring matters of concern to the readers. I wish to take this opportunity to commend The Herald-Dispatch for the beautiful West Virginia wildlife photos printed in recent issues on the Community Page.

It is refreshing to see pictures submitted by people who appreciate our beautiful area and its animals living in their natural habitat. In the past, especially during autumn, we have been subjected to pictures of dead defenseless "trophy" animals and the hunters who kill them for sport.

Perhaps photos celebrating the kill could be available on The Herald-Dispatch Web pages for readers who enjoy that sort of thing. This would leave the focus for the printed wildlife photos on the celebration of our state's natural beauty, which is appreciated by all readers.
