You voted for leaders blocking gas price fix

Note to my Democrat friends:

The U.S. Constitution established the right of free speech, so (short of harming other people) you can complain about anything.

But I don't see how you can complain about petroleum product prices and still look in the mirror.

I concede that producing more oil on U.S. soil and in U.S. territorial waters wouldn't totally solve the issue, but it would help.

But no one can drill on U.S. property because it's prohibited by certain members of Congress, primarily by those Democrat or liberal members you elected.

You should wear a happy smile when you gas up your vehicle.

Help Highlanders get new uniforms

The Huntington High School Marching Highlanders have started practicing for their 2008 season. The outlook for an extremely exciting season is perched upon the horizon. The band members are excited, the parents are excited, the staff is excited and everyone wants to share their excitement with our community.

The band has worn the same uniforms since the school opened 12 years ago. At the first home football game in September, the Highlanders goal is to march out on the field donned in sparkling new uniforms.

The Band Boosters began raising $75,000 for 125 new uniforms in December, we are $16,000 short and need the community's help.

Let's show pride in the youth of our fair city. Donations can be mailed to HHS band c/o Paul Davis, 3872 Green Valley Road, Huntington, WV. Go Highlanders.

Reid proves his anti-coal bias

I have no respect for Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev. In my opinion, the man is incapable of handling the responsibilities of being the majority leader.

On July 1 on national TV, Reid made the statement that coal and oil were bad for the environment, that they made people sick.

Allen Colmes, who I detest on Fox News' Hannity and Colmes, echoed Reid's comments.

Throughout history, coal and oil have made possible major advancements in every technology that has advanced the standard of living for mankind worldwide. The Democrats and environmentalist are so against the use of fossil fuels that their bias blinds them to any positive contributions of fossil fuels.

They are certainly no friends of West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky or any coal-producing states or oil-producing states. They seem to be against everything. I can't figure out anything they are for. I hope Senators Robert Byrd and Jay Rockefeller, both D-W.Va., demand an apology for Reid's ill-considered remarks.

Dems must unite behind Obama

People across the nation went to the polls and named Barack Obama as their 2008 Democratic presidential nominee. Hillary R. Clinton ran a good race, but lost. It's time now for the Democrats to rally around Sen. Obama and work hard for his election.

Obviously, our elected men in Congress felt he was the better candidate. Since they work closer to the candidates, we should accept and honor their choice to support Obama.

Voting them out of office won't change a thing. It will only weaken our state's power in Washington. Vote this year with your hearts, not your anger.
