I have attended the Lawrence County Fair since I was a small child and have always looked forward to it each year. I ran in the Demolition Derby for 20 years and now help my son and his friends, but things are not the same. Each year, things have been going down hill for the sport that has been one of the biggest attractions for years. Each year, there are more complaints from fellow members and a lot have stopped competing and completely stopped coming to watch the Demolition Derby.
But it is of no surprise to me. I cannot blame them because the complaints fall on deaf ears. The Lawrence County Fair Board refuses to listen to the voice of the people. It is time for a change.
The Lawrence County Fair is a family place for people to enjoy. It is time for a change. I am thinking a new fair board and definitely someone new to put on the derby. They have gone from having three big nights of derby fun to part of a small car derby and a third of the big cars. It doesn't look good for next year at all.
Everyone who is also concerned needs to contact the fair board and voice your opinion. I think we are about to lose the one thing that makes Lawrence County so special to the area.
