Mountaintop removal must stop

I recently returned to the area of my birthplace in eastern Kentucky for a funeral. As we drove into some of the area of mountaintop removal, I ironically noticed the death of mountaintops. Replaced with buildings, roads and living quarters that will soon be humans’ garbage, so little of character or long-term livability. Much worse, the next day as we drove to the grave site, I witnessed trash in garbage bags stacked on porches of abandoned houses and trailers.

Is our love for the land indicative by this behavior of manufacturing trash or the destruction of mountaintop removal? Is this what we pass on to our children? I plead not to continue this. I want to return to my home, and your home, to find a place of beauty; that is not our nation’s current goal or policy.
I plead for something better.

Police disrespectful to funeral procession

I just wanted to let everyone know how disrespectful Barboursville police are.
I was in a funeral procession for my grandmother, and the Barboursville police pulled over the last vehicle in the procession line. Even when he realized my aunt was in the funeral, the policeman said she wasn’t the only one who ran the red light. He never apologized! I personally think the Barboursville police department needs to apologize to the family of Sylvia Delores Akers.
