Rename 29th St. exit for Soupy Sales
I was performing a magic show at the Comedy Spot Comedy Club in Atlanta, Ga., in 1983 when Soupy Sales walked in. After my show, I introduced myself and told him I was from Huntington, W.Va. A smile crossed his face and of course we talked about Marshall University, Stewarts Hot Dogs, Huntington High School (I went to Huntington East) and Jim’s Spaghetti. I got his autograph and we went our separate ways.
Then, in 2001, I ran into Soupy Sales again at the Masquerade Dinner Theatre, and then years later at the Huntington Civic Center for the Soupy Sales Comedy Tour. He didn’t remember my name, of course, but he knew my face. Just one year ago this month (October), Mr. Soupy Sales developed an aortic aneurysm and was confined to a wheelchair.
Now with the passing of Soupy Sales, I agree with Mr. Joel L. Thompson from Ceredo who wrote a letter to the Voice of the People saying we should rename Interstate 64’s 29th Street East Exit to Soupy Sales Boulevard.
Atlanta has James Brown, Morgantown has Don Knotts, and American Idol has three stars’ streets named after them. I believe Soupy Sales Boulevard would be nice, even if he wasn’t born in West Virginia.

Hate crimes law lowers standards
Our United States Congress has passed yet another law to advance the cause of immorality. Hate crimes (thought) legislation to advance the cause of homosexuals was attached to a defense appropriations bill and signed by Obama. This act of Congress is no surprise since our schools have denigrated our moral standards since the 1960s.
A German psychologist, Wilhelm Wundt promoted the idea that man was just an animal and could be reprogrammed to transform society. That is exactly the kind of programming that has been used to create a belief by many individuals that homosexual activity was normal. After all, if man is nothing but an animal, as Wundt and all of his followers since believed (including the animal psychologist, Dr. Alfred Kinsey, who reported gross experiments on children), then why not live and act like an animal.
Using the study of science, theory of evolution and psychological education through our schools, these “liberal” radicals have convinced millions of our children over the past 50 years that man is not a special human being created by God. They will never experience lives of human love and happiness brought about by a society with Judeo-Christian values. If the biblical rules for marriage had never been established, we all would be living as heathens.

Hasan is both a coward and traitor
Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is no longer a man, let alone a being with honor. He has violated all of the trusts placed in him, and broken his oaths he made to his country, his government, his service, his profession, and to his fellow soldiers. Whether the supreme being is called God, or Allah, Hasan would not be welcomed as a martyr.
Hasan compares the suicide bomber to the soldier that throws himself on top of a grenade to save the lives of his comrades. There is no comparison; one is no more like the other than an apple is like a grape. The bomber is attacking and attempting to kill other people, like the grenade that the soldier attempts to cover with his own mortal body. One is a murderer, the other an honorable and courageous soldier. Hasan is a coward, and not a martyr; alive or dead, he is a traitor.
