Wright was wrong in his comments
In response to the letter stating that the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's statements were correct, I, for one, totally disagree.
In the first place, America is not spelled Amerikkka. It is spelled A-M-E-R-I-C-A. Second, I agree that the blacks in the United States have not always been treated fairly and their treatment was appalling. What about the Japanese citizens we put into camps after the bombing of Pearl Harbor? What about the Indians who were and still are on reservations? This was their land, not ours. Were we fair and just to them?
We have not always been fair to our fellow man. That, I agree, is something that as Americans we need to work on, but to lump everyone into one category and say that whites are wicked is just wrong. Being fair and just should apply to all people, regardless of race, social or economic background.
Sir, I think you are the one who needs to be re-educated.

Bailey has promised to clean up city
My sister lives near Columbus, Ohio, and I agreed to spend Mother's Day week with her.
That was until I realized primary election falls on May 13. Come Election Day, I will be there front and center to vote for Bob Bailey for mayor. As far as I can tell, he has been the only candidate who has came forth and said, "Let's clean up Huntington." You would have to be blind to not notice the present state of our once-beautiful city. My street especially needs cleaning up.
My friend Polly and I are 77 years old and have tried to keep our properties up to par while the rest of the neighborhood has gone to despair. It is so pathetically bad that we are now looking at roaches, two-foot-high weeds, a yard full of water from a storm drain that is filled with garbage and cut-down trees next door at a closed down factory.
Countless times I have asked the present administration to help clean up the filth and garbage, and it has always been to no avail.
My only hope at this point is that Bob Bailey is as he has been in the past: a man of his word. If not, you can look for my name in The Voice of the People after he takes office.

Farrell more than qualified to be judge
I'm voting for Paul Farrell for Cabell County circuit judge because he is my brother, my law partner and my friend. I recommend Paul to you because of his lifelong commitment to service, his values, his experience and his ability to do the job well.
Paul has spent his life preparing to be an excellent circuit court judge. He served as an officer in the Army, he has served as counsel to the president of the West Virginia Senate (six years), he has served as an assistant Cabell County prosecuting attorney, an assistant United States attorney (he directed the Federal Drug Task Force), an assistant attorney general for the state of West Virginia, an administrative law judge for the West Virginia Department of Employment, as a hearing examiner for worker's compensation and as a lawyer engaged in a very active private practice. He has earned the respect of attorneys throughout the state as evidenced by the results of the State Bar judicial poll.
Paul is dedicated to his church, his family and his community. He shares your values. His broad experience as a practicing attorney makes him exceptionally well-qualified to preside as circuit court judge. All of Cabell County will benefit from having a man of Paul's character and experience serve as judge for our community.

Bias is best choice for Cabell sheriff
I listen with great disgust to the candidates talking about Scott Bias not having law enforcement background. He is a manager and will put the deputies to work and then justify why we need more.
At the WSAZ and Herald-Dispatch forum, the other candidates were asked how they would handle the administrative and tax office responsibilities. Their response was, "Hire someone."
Everyone knows there is a chief deputy under the sheriff, so why are they picking on Bias? I don't see any difference. In fact, when you consider the big picture, it is pretty clear Scott Bias is the best choice.

Rahall, Rockefeller try to take our vote
I am very disappointed in Jay Rockefeller and Nick Rahall. How in the world could they come out and endorse a candidate for president and West Virginia hasn't even voted? It's like they are trying to take our vote away, and I am not the only one thinking that. I hear that from other people, too.
You will never get my vote any more, and I have been with you from the start.
