Mark Caserta: Christianity poses a threat to liberals
Why is the attack on Christianity at the epicenter of progressivism?
The Bible, God's authoritative Word, is the foundation for morality and the principles of "right and wrong" as we've known them for centuries.
Far more than a compilation of writings by men subject to challenge, the Bible is God's communication with man, divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit in its writing. Varying interpretations of its meaning aren't from God's miscommunication -- but from our reception.
And while having knowledge of the scriptures is certainly foundational to fulfilling God's purpose in our lives, it isn't all-encompassing of his will.
In fact, its meaningful understanding and application must be accompanied by the wisdom and revelation provided by the Holy Spirit.
Memorization of scripture without the enlightenment of the fruits of the Spirit as shared in Galatians 5:22-23 (love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control) provides no benefit.
In fact, Satan, himself, has a working knowledge of God's Word!
After being baptized, Jesus, now filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness where he fasted for 40 days and nights.
In His weakened state, the Bible tells us the tempter (Satan) used the Holy Scriptures to tempt Jesus hoping to cause him to fall before undertaking His mission for mankind.
But Jesus possessed more than an inert "knowledge" of the scriptures -- He was empowered by the fruits of the Spirit!
Remember, among those who crucified Jesus were the Pharisees and Sadducees, who were the most learned men of their time and were even charged with preserving the written scriptures.
But when faced with the teachings of Jesus, emboldened with the power of the Holy Spirit, they were "blinded" by their own "intellect," and memorization of scripture alone could not enable them to grasp the fulfilling of God's Word before their very eyes!
In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul explained that the wisdom of God is not comprehended by human intellect but by the discernment of the Holy Spirit through the mind of Christ.
If our purpose in understanding God's Word is anything less than "having the mind of Christ" in our daily lives, we will fall tragically short of God's purpose.
It's for this reason Christianity is targeted by liberals.
Progressives understand the need to "destroy the roots" of our foundational beliefs established by God's Word. Individuals possessing the mind of Christ would render Progressives powerless in their attempt to remove God's influence in our society.
I believe our nation is currently experiencing a liberal harvest from seed sown in earlier generations just now coming to fruition in our society.
In America, you're free to be a Christian as long as you don't actually take a stand on your faith. Religious freedom is vehemently protected by liberals, as long it isn't used to express the views of Jesus Christ.
You'll never hear a liberal question the validity or interpretation of the Koran.
Only Christianity poses a threat to the progressive movement.
