Health care for retirees should be bipartisan issue
UMWA Patriot Coal miner retirees risk losing their health care that was promised by Aug. 1. A group went to Capitol Hill to stir up support on the CARE Act (S.468/H.R.980), which is sponsored by Rockefeller, Rahall, Manchin, but not by McKinley and Capito.
Whether Republican or Democrat, this shouldn't matter because this is morally wrong that thousands risk losing their health care! Why didn't Capito join in to help these people? We the people of West Virginia voted her into office and why isn't she supporting this? Why?
Some are bedridden with sicknesses, some are trying to go off their medications to see what they can do without! This is a very important issue.
Why, Capito and McKinley, why?
Newspaper should speak against air pollution in area
A big thumbs down to the editorial board at The Herald-Dispatch for continuing to deny the importance of protecting health of West Virginians and all Americans from the dangers of air pollution from coal-fired power plants.
In 2011, the Huntington metro area ranked 15th worst for year-round particle pollution, according to the American Lung Association, and that is no joke. Not to mention the dangers of climate change, which we need to wake up and address.
We need real economic transition to a sustainable economy, not more of the same in West Virginia, and the H-D needs to realize that.
Allegiant offers the lowest fares, despite add-on fees
I used to live in the Tri-State area and was reading your article on Allegiant Air's fees. I was sitting in the Huntington airport waiting to catch my flight to St. Petersburg, Fla., using Allegiant. Your info on Allegiant fees was slightly off.
Extra fees or not, other than Spirit Airlines, where else can you fly round-trip, non-stop for $138, with a small backpack and a 25 pound carry-on? $2 for a bottle of water? Please! You pay that much or more in a grocery store cold case. Try driving for that price.
I tried three other airlines who had extra stops, baggage fees and prices of $150 or more higher than Allegiant.
