Why do others produce our flags?

Why does the United States allow the American flag to be produced in other countries, many who don't even believe anything we stand for? It boggles my mind. I believe that anything patriotic like pins, hats, shirts, flags, etc that especially have the flag on it should be made in the GOOD OL' USA.

I refuse to buy a flag made outside the U.S. I would rather pay a lot more for it than buy a cheap imitation.

One nation under God! May you all have a happy 4th of July!

There's another side to power plant story

Per your flimsy article regarding the nuclear power plant opening near Portsmouth, Ohio, here's the other half of the story:

1. The site and surrounding air, water and ground are highly contaminated with radiation and toxins from prior operations.

2. 85 percent of sick and dying plant workers and area residents with federally recognized illnesses from chemical and radiation exposures from prior operations at this site have still not been lawfully compensated.

3. Local communities were not consulted on this new nuclear plan for our tax-funded site. Do we have a representative government or a monarchy? Strickland and his contractor buddies just come to town and say, "You're getting another nuclear plant, serfs! And maybe you can earn $20 an hour (before taxes) working there 10 years from now!"

4. CEOs and politicians responsible for contaminating other communities are the new cleanup contractors and investors for current operations. They're back again to earn their 7-figure, taxpayer-funded salaries.

The above corruption should enrage both the anti- and pro-nuclear camps.

There is a public meeting in Piketown, Ohio, Thursday, 6:30 p.m. Aug. 6, at the Endeavor Center on Shyville Road.

Americans deserve change in health care

Our Congressmen and women are not getting the message from us, any better than the Ayatollahs in Iran are hearing their people. We want SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE now!

You want economy? Let the government buy drugs in bulk. Cut out the middlemen. Half of Huntington's problem is the cost of the city paying city employees' health coverage. Single payer would resolve that.

Like Medicare, the Fed pays the bill, we choose the doctor. Do you know anyone clamoring to give up their Medicare?

As for long waiting lines, how come Canada, England, France and Germany aren't agitating to give up their health care because of long lines? It isn't happening, folks.

Instead, you're being hoodwinked by the same folks who brought you "Harry and Louise" (The same agency who made the swift boat ads.) Plus Max Baucus chairs the finance committee writing the bill. He's the third highest recipient, the top Democrat, receiving money from insurance and pharmaceutical lobbyist.

Call Byrd (202-224-3954) and Rockefeller (202-224-2472). Write them c/o The Capitol, Washington, D.C. 20510. Tell them: together we pay more now for insurance and drugs than the cost of single payer.
