Thank those who voted for reform
Finally, our government officials, those we voted into the House of Representatives this time, voted for the people of this country on Saturday, Nov. 7, by passing H.R.3962, the Affordable Health Care Act.
Thank you to the representatives who voted FOR and not AGAINST. Thank you for doing what we ask of you, putting our people before the lobbyists and the high dollar insurance industry for once! Let’s hope and pray that during the next vote put before the Senate, the senators of this state will follow by passing the historic accomplishment for health care reform for all Americans.
Voting for health care reform is a vote for human beings first, Americans second and Republicans or Democrats third. It is time politicians quit playing politics with our lives!

Christmas should be about Christ
I agree with the writer of the letter “Christmas involves religious aspect too.” It’s like having a birthday party and the person whose birthday it is, isn’t invited. His name cannot even be mentioned — even in the name of the day — CHRISTMAS!
I would like to encourage those who believe Christmas is first and foremost a celebration of our Savior’s birth to include something in your outdoor Christmas decorations to this effect. Whether it be a nativity, a star, an angel, Peace on Earth sign — there are many possibilities.
Christmas can be for everyone who wishes to participate, but please, it is His birthday! Happy holidays? Bah, humbug. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

City all about extracting fees
I live on Crane Avenue in Altizer and have been accustomed to parking my car in my yard close to my bedroom window so I can hear my car alarm go off if it’s broken into.
The city police on average take upwards of two hours to respond to calls in Altizer. They don’t patrol on a regular basis, and it’s a rare occasion to see a police car on Crane Avenue ever. I work hard and want to do all I can to protect my property. I’m in my 60s; I don’t hear well enough to know if my car alarm is going off from the street.
I was shocked to see that the city police had written me a $500 ticket for parking my car in my yard. I used my driveway to get my car into the yard. I didn’t drive across the curb, which I know is illegal. It’s clear that Huntington is all about extracting fees and writing tickets for insane ordinances. Most people in my neighborhood view the city and police with contempt!

Adults should set example for youth
I witnessed one of the best football games I have ever seen on Sunday, Oct. 25, between the Buffalo Bison A Team and the DC Express. The DC Express came away with the win, but did they deserve it?
Brad Myers reported for WSAZ that Huntington Middle School had to forfeit all its football games for this season because it had a player who played a youth league game after practicing with the middle school. If this was a serious enough offence for the WVSSAC to take action against HMS, why was it not serious enough to catch the attention of the Tri State Youth Football League?
At the youth league age level, the focus should be teaching the game and building a foundation of morals, ethics and fairness that will follow these kids through lives. There are so many adults in positions of authority these days who are ethically challenged and we feel helpless to do anything about it. Now is the time, when children are young, to show them that if they do the right thing and speak up for the right thing, they WILL get ahead.
I challenge the leaders of the Youth Football League to set an example for this generation by demanding that their coaches and refs exhibit a high standard of ethics and fairness. Let us help this generation of children grow to be the principled leaders we all want to see.
